International Women's Day

As a woman who works in the entertainment industry and follows the media, I have something to say with regards to a couple of articles that came out recently that have "feminists" up in arms.  I say "feminists" because, I am a feminist.  I believe in having equal rights, pay, opportunity and everything else.  I do not, however, think that feminism requires me to give two shits about what other women believe I should feel about some minutia that was meant to be entertainment.

First, Taylor Swift's comment about Tina Fey and Amy Pohler going to hell for not helping women.  There are no two ladies who have helped each other, and other ladies in entertainment, more in the last ten years than these two stand-up broads.  Tina and Amy conquered the Weekend Update desk with ease and that was just their warm-up act.  They hire women, they write for women, they act like...  well...  really mature teenagers.  Don't get your panties in a bunch, they're not offended, they get the joke.

Second, what exactly was so offensive about Seth MacFarlane's "We Saw Your Boobs" song?  Did those women not decide, of their own free will, to take their clothes off on celluloid?  Were they not paid for it?  Handsomely, in fact?  Did Kate Winslet complain that she was offended?  If anyone had a right to be offended, it would be her.

The lyrics weren't offensive, it's simply a list of women and the movies in which they bared their breasts.  To be offended by this song is like being offended by a song called "You Won an Oscar".

Seth's Song
We saw your boobs
We saw your boobs
In the movie that we saw, we saw your boobs
Meryl Streep, we saw your boobs in “Silkwood”
Naomi Watts’ in “Mulholland Drive”
Angelina Jolie, we saw your boobs in “Gia”
.....
And Kate Winslet in “Heavenly Creatures” and “Jude”
And “Hamlet” and “Titanic”
And “Iris” and “Little Children”
And “The Reader”
And whatever you’re shooting right now.
We saw your boobs
We saw your boobs

My Song
You won an Oscar
You won an Oscar
In the movie that we saw, you won an Oscar
Kate Winslet you won one for "The Reader"
Anne Hathaway you won for "Les Mis"
Angelina Jole you won for "Girl Interrupted"
......
And Meryl Streep you won one for "The Iron Lady"
And "Sophie's Choice"
And "Kramer vs. Kramer"
And whatever you're shooting right now
You'll win an Oscar
You'll win an Oscar

Okay, my version could use some finesse but you see my point, no?  If Tina and Amy were still anchoring SNL, I imagine this weekend would feature a parody of Seth MacFarlane's panned song aptly entitled "We Saw Your Wang".  I wish Tina and Amy were on SNL this weekend singing just that...

P.S.  What do you expect when you ask Peter Griffin/Quagmire to host the Oscars?
